Laurent Koscielny prefers 'relaxing' with Scrabble rather than using social media

Laurent Koscielny believes his younger teammates view him as a "grandad" due to his love of board games.

An increasing number of modern players indulge in social media and video games but Koscielny's hobbies are different to many of his colleagues.

The 31-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Les Bleus, prefers to relax with traditional pastimes between games.

"My younger team-mates are more tech-savvy than me,” Koscielny told L'Equipe Magazine.

“I don't tweet and they must think I'm like a grandad. But I love playing Scrabble.

"I began with my stepdad and brothers. I'm pretty good now, it relaxes me. I'm competitive and I like to win and try and improve," Koscielny insisted.

International tournaments often prove to be a testing time for the majority of players, with boredom likely to set in during extended periods away from their loved ones.

But Koscielny is adamant France's football stars found respite from the pressures of Euro 2016 by playing the famous word game.

"I like playing cards and board games, and I played Scrabble a lot during EURO 2016 with Olivier Giroud, Hugo Lloris and some of my other France team-mates.

"It gave us more laughs than playing video games," the central defender added.
