Arsene Wenger believes that there is something remarkable about this squad

Arsene Wenger believes there is “something remarkable” about his Arsenal squad despite, or perhaps because of, the fortuitous nature of their draw at Manchester United.

Olivier Giroud headed home in the 89th minute with the visitor’s first shot on target to earn Arsenal a scarcely deserved draw after Juan Mata had converted an Ander Herrera cross midway through the second half.

“The two substitutes did well. We have done that so many times this season and it shows that mentally there’s something in the squad that is remarkable,” he said.

“There’s great unity, great resilience and a never-give-up attitude. We know that we can do better going forward.”

Wenger added: “Last year's we'd maybe have lost this game so hopefully we can move on and kick on against from now with some wins.

“We've a big game against Paris St Germain and I'm convinced we'll be better on Wednesday night.”

Arsenal’s fortune was reflected in Andre Marriner’s decision not to award a first half penalty that could have gone either way.
