Arsenal v Bournemouth Preview

Published 26/11/16

Arsenal will look to get back to winning ways and end their November woes on Sunday but can take nothing for granted against Eddie Howe’s impressive Bournemouth side.

The visitors will be without Arsenal loanee Jack Wilshere, slowly but surely recovering form and fitness on the south coast, but could still pose a serious threat to the Gunners through the likes of Callum Wilson and Junior Stanislas.

But Arsenal have won all of their three games  against Bournemouth, both of last season’s being comfortable 2-0 wins, and will likely need to continue that run on Sunday as they look to play catchup on the league’s top three (Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City), all of whom play on Saturday.

TEAM NEWS

Arsene Wenger’s injury concerns will not have eased by the time Bournemouth, with Hector Bellerin, Santi Cazorla and Lucas Perez remaining medium term absentees alongside Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck.

Without Cazorla Wenger continues to struggle to put together a midfield pairing to his liking, the Francis Coquelin-Aaron Ramsey axis was the third different partnership in as many games. Summer signing Granit Xhaka continues to struggle for game time but may be brought back into the starting lineup on Sunday.

Kieran Gibbs was preferred to Nacho Monreal as his side’s starting full-back after a bright string of performances and will hope he has done enough to keep his place, particularly as he provides more attacking thrust than Carl Jenkinson on the opposite flank.

The absence of Wilshere for Bournemouth will likely Harry Arter line up as the number 10 behind Callum Wilson, meaning Nathan Ake steps into midfield after playing as a centre-back in last week’s win at Stoke.

Lewis Cook is Bournemouth’s only long-term injury absentee whilst all three of Jordan Ibe, Artur Boruc and Andrew Surman will be subject to fitness tests.
