Arsene Wenger is backing Alex Iwobi to get even better says Gernot Rohr

Arsene Wenger believes there is much more to come from Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi, according to Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr.

The African playmaker has made an exciting start to the 2016-17 Premier League season following his breakthrough into the Arsenal first-team last term.

Iwobi has made three assists in nine top-flight appearances, although the Arsenal number 17 disappointed in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a regular in Rohr’s Nigeria team alongside Chelsea winger Victor Moses and Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

Iwobi, who made his Arsenal debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup last season, is the nephew of former Bolton Wanderers and Nigeria captain Jay-Jay Okocha.

And Nigeria head coach Rohr has revealed that Gunners boss Wenger is expecting big things from the Arsenal playmaker.

“When I met Arsene Wenger last month, we talked about Iwobi and he told me there’s more to his game than what we are seeing at the moment,” Rohr told The London Evening Standard.

“He is a confident lad. He is not afraid to try new tricks in training and games. He can only get better; his best is yet to come.”
