Arsenal pair set for new contracts

It's being reported that Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin are in advanced talks with Arsenal over contract extensions.

A day doesn't seem to go by where there's not a piece of contract speculation at the moment, but ESPN have carried a piece today with the old 'sources close to the club' line saying that the French pair are in advanced talks over new deals to extend their stay at the club and those talks are going well as the both share the same agent.

Giroud has been subject to plenty of speculation so far this year as the outlet point out and as ever the driver for that is his presumed lack of game time owing to substitute appearances, but he does have 18 months left on his current deal and manager Arsene Wenger has often said he remains in his plans despite only starting two matches so far this year.

Midfielder Coquelin is also contracted up until the summer of 2019, but ESPN say the club are ready to reward his progress by giving him a two year extension to ensure his longer term future remains at the Emirates Stadium with his importance to the first team thesedays - 12 Premier League starts so far this yer.
